存在を知られていなかった第一作ポスター

The first poster you didn’t know existed

昭和20、30年代のゴジラシリーズや東宝特撮映画のポスターは、東宝のオフィシャル版のほか、地方版や企業とのタイアップ版など別デザインが存在する。半世紀以上も経った近年も驚きのお宝が見つかることも。これぞ、過去のマニア向け資料にも掲載がなかった第一作『ゴジラ』の稀觀品。「寺島映画資料文庫」を運営する映画研究家・寺島正芳氏が探し求めて入手した。「骨董雑誌に掲載されているのを見て、初めて見るポスターで是非手に入れたく古物商に探索を依頼し、発見の報を受けて即購入を決めました」と寺島氏。『ゴジラ』のパンフレットのデザインをベースに、どぎつい原色使いで恐怖映画じみたテイストだ。

Posters for the Godzilla series and Toho special effects movies from the 1950s and 1950s include Toho’s official version, as well as other designs such as regional versions and corporate tie-up versions. Even after more than half a century, surprising treasures are still being found. This is a rare item from the first Godzilla movie, which was not even listed in past materials for enthusiasts. Masayoshi Terashima, a film researcher who runs the “Terashima Film Archive,”searched for and obtained the document. “When I saw it published in an antique magazine, I wanted to get my hands on the poster because it was the first time I had seen it, so I asked an antiques dealer to search for it, and when I received the news of the discovery, I decided to purchase it immediately,”Terashima said. Based on the design of the “Godzilla”pamphlet, the use of harsh primary colors gives it the feel of a horror movie.

寺島氏がポスターを入手した記念写真。2015年には世田谷美術館で展示。その際は宝田明氏が訪れている。

1960年代までの映画黄金時代は、映画各社版とは別デザインのポスターを作る専門会社があった。この2枚は左ページの『1954「ゴジラ」研究極本』に掲載されたが、詳細が間に合わなかったためここにフォロー。

During the golden age of cinema, which lasted until the 1960s, there were specialized companies that created posters with designs different from those produced by movie companies. These two photos were published in the “1954 ‘Godzilla’ Research Gokuhon” on the left page, but since the details were not available in time, I am following them here.
