1954年11月, 映画 『ゴジラ』封切られた。この年、ビキ二水爆実験で第五福竜丸が被曝した事件は,被爆国日本の 国民に大きな衝撃を与えた。ゴジラはそれにヒントを得てつくられたキャラクターだった。水爆実験で目をさました怪獣ゴジラが,放射能光線で 東京を火の海にする。それは, 核兵器の恐怖そのものであった。この映画では, 円谷英二の特撮技術が大きな役割をは たし, ゴジラの恐ろしさを見事に表現した。

In November 1954, the movie “Godzilla” was released. In the same year, the exposure of the Daigo Fukuryu Maru in the Bikini hydrogen bomb test had a great impact on the people of Japan, the country that suffered the atomic bombing. Godzilla was a character inspired by it. The monster Godzilla, awakened by a hydrogen bomb test, turns Tokyo into a sea of fire with radioactive rays. It was the terror of nuclear weapons. In this movie, Eiji Tsuburaya’s special effects skills played a major role, and he brilliantly expressed the terror of Godzilla.
