磁性体って何だ。
What is magnetic material?

渡り鳥が道に迷わずにふるさとに帰ることができるのは、頭の中にコンパスがあるからだ。このコンパスが磁性体だ。地球には磁場 (磁極に対して力を及ぼす空間)があるが、この磁場の方向と頭の中にある磁性体を反応させながら飛んでいくために、どこまで飛んで行っても迷わずに移動することができる。 つまり、方向を確かめるためのコンパスということなのだ。

Migratory birds can return to their hometown without getting lost because of the compass in their heads. This compass is a magnetic material. The earth has a magnetic field (a space that exerts a force on the magnetic poles), but since they fly while reacting to the direction of this magnetic field with the magnetic material in the head, they move without hesitation no matter how far they flies. 磁性体は、集団で大移動する動物には必ずあるので恐竜であるゴジラにもあるとされている。

ゴジラの帰巣本能については、3作目の「キングコ ング対ゴジラ」のストーリーでも一度登場している。「キングコング対ゴジラ」の前の作品「ゴジラの逆襲」のエンディングで、北海道の北端にある氷山だらけの島神子島に上陸したゴジラ。そして「キングコング 対ゴジラ」で、北極の氷山の中から出てきたゴジラが、 某軍事基地を破壊してから帰巣本能によって日本に戻ってくるという設定になっている。

しかし、中期ぐらいのゴジラの戦いぶりを見てみると、敵の怪獣に対して、しっかり作戦を立てて行動しているような素振りが感じられる。また、知能的な攻撃作戦を得意としたゴジラだから、なかなか知性的な生物といえるだろう。

ちなみに、「怪獣大戦争」ではマンガから流行った“シエーのポーズ”をとり、「ゴジラ対メガロ」では木枯し紋次郎のスタイルも真似たゴジラであった。
