本作の主演を務めた故・夏木陽介氏は、1958年の俳優デビュー以降、本作までの6年間で50本以上の映画に出演し、スター俳優としての地位を確立していた。本作への出演後は、主演作『青春とはなんだ』(65〜66年)のヒットを機にテレビドラマにも本格的に進出し、お茶の間でも広く知られる存在となった。無類の自動車好きとしても知られ、85年・86年にはパリダカールラリーに自ら出場した。

The late Yosuke Natsuki, who played the lead role in this film, had appeared in more than 50 films in the six years since his acting debut in 1958, and had established himself as a star actor. After appearing in this work, he made a full-fledged foray into TV dramas with the success of his starring work, “What’s Youth” (1965-1966), and became a well-known presence even in the kitchen? He is also known as an unparalleled car enthusiast, and participated in the Paris-Dakar Rally in 1985 and 1986.

夏木氏が映画に数多く出演した時期は、東宝特撮映画の量産期とも重なる。このため、夏木氏の出演作には特撮作品が多く含まれている。その縁はベテランとなってからも続き、『ゴジラ』(84年)や「ギララの逆襲洞爺湖サミット危機一発』(08年)などでダンディな魅力を見せている。そんな夏木氏は、2016年のイベント「ゴジラ誕生祭」で84年版『ゴジラ』が上映された際に、会場に直筆のメッセージ色紙を寄せていた。夏木氏のゴジラへの思い入れが綴られたその色紙を、ご遺族の許可を得てここに掲載する。

The period in which Mr. Natsuki appeared in many movies also coincided with the period of mass production of Toho special effects films. For this reason, many of Natsuki’s appearances include special effects works. This relationship continued even after he became a veteran, and he has shown his dandy charm in films such as “Godzilla” (1984) and “Girara’s Counterattack: Toyako Summit Crisis Ippatsu” (2008). When the 1984 version of “Godzilla” was screened at the “Godzilla Birthday Festival”event in 2017, he left a handwritten message on colored paper at the venue. The colored paper on which Mr. Natsuki’s feelings toward Godzilla are spelled out is published here with the permission of his family.

ゴジラの誕生は人類滅亡の警告者である。と理解しなから’84ゴジラでは最後はゴジラを「生まれ故郷」に帰す計画を政府に提案その帰募集本能お利用する事に作り三原山の火口にやむなく誘導してしまう辛い役の林田教授を演じました。ゴジラと別れる時の小林材樹さん演じる首相と林田教授の最後のカットは今でも忘れられないワンシーンです。

The birth of Godzilla is a warning of the extinction of humanity. That’s why in 1984’s Godzilla, he proposed to the government a plan to return Godzilla to his “birthplace,” and played the painful role of Professor Hayashida, who was forced to take advantage of Godzilla’s instinct to return to the crater of Mt. Mihara. The final shot of the Prime Minister and Professor Hayashida, played by Zaiki Kobayashi, as they part ways with Godzilla, is still an unforgettable scene.
