have so many video tapes from the 80s and 90s. Ever so often I pull off the VCR and plug it into my iMac to rip some old TV commercials and programs. It’s all about reliving those past experiences “growing up Godzilla.” Here are a few moments of my Philadelphia TV experience in the 80s on Channel 17 The Late Show with the broadcast of Godzilla King of the Monsters (1965) starring Raymond Burr. Notice the warn: “This picture is suitable only for adults.”
Next up is a clip from Channel 29’s Theater Bizarre featuring Godzilla on Monster Island, also known as Godzilla vs Gigan (1971).
For Christmas in 1984, my brother gave me The Ultraman anime series on VHS. Before the movie there were prevues that introduced Japanese anime I had never seen before. I watched this over and over again.
We didn’t have DVDs, Apple iTunes, Hulu, or Netflix to watch Godzilla anytime we wanted. We had to wait until the weekend. And though we had to wait there was nothing like it. It was more special and I still feel the buildup of adrenaline. Hope you enjoyed the blast from the past!
