山根博士は怪物を大戸島の伝説に因んで〝ゴジラ〟と命名、度重なる原水爆実験で目覚めた古代生物の生き残りであると推測した。

Dr. Yamane named the monster “Godzilla” after the legend of Otoshima, and speculated that it was a survivor of an ancient creature awakened by repeated atomic bomb experiments.

フリゲート艦隊による海中機雷攻撃も空しく、遂にゴジラは東京に上陸した。自衛隊の機銃掃射をはね返し、品川を破壊したゴジラは悠然と海へ帰っていった。

芹澤大介博士が発明した水中酸素破壊剤オキシジェンデストロイヤー。水中の酸素を一瞬にして破壊し尽くし、あらゆる生物を窒息死させ、その後、液化してしまう恐るべきエネルギーを秘めている。酸素をあらゆる角度から徹底的に研究した芹澤博士が、その研究途上で思いがけずに発見したエネルギーだった。砲丸大一個で東京湾一円の海中を一瞬にして死の海に変えることができると言われている。

Oxygen Destroyer, an underwater oxygen destroyer invented by Dr. Daisuke Serizawa. It has the terrifying energy of destroying oxygen in the water in an instant, suffocating all living things, and then liquefying them. It was the energy that Dr. Serizawa, who thoroughly studied oxygen from all angles, unexpectedly discovered during the research. It is said that a single shot put can instantly transform the sea of Tokyo Bay into a sea of death.

芹澤はもし兵器として使用をされれば、水爆と同じように人類を破滅に導くであろうと考え、世間には公表しないつもりたった。

Serizawa thought that if it was used as a weapon, it would lead to the destruction of humankind in the same way as a hydrogen bomb, and he did not intend to disclose it to the public.

芹澤は幼なじみの恵美子にだけ秘密を打ち明けた。
