サイボット・ゴジラは、スタッフの間では“ロボG”または“ロボゴジ”と呼ばれ親しまれていた。新作「ゴジラ」にぜひコンピュータで可動するゴジラを作ろうという発案者はプロデューサーの田中友幸氏であった。製作費一億5百万円、データーをインプットすることにより、肩を怒らせながら上を見上げて吼える、あるいは胸をふくらませたり、表情を変化させるなど様々な動作が可能で、これまでのゴジラ映画にないディテールを表現出来た。高さ4.8メートル、全長10メートル、映画のためにこれほど精巧なロボットが作られたのは世界に例がない。
