芸能界に入ったきっかけは何でしょう? 子供のときから歌が好きだったんです。 ずっ と、台湾や中国のテレビの歌番組を見て歌手に憧 れる女の子でした。18歳になったときに大きなア イドルのオーディションに応募してなんと2万人 も応募があったんですが、本当に嬉しいことにた った5人の合格者に選ばれてデビューしました。 私は2位だったんです。デビューは1968年で した。

What made you enter the entertainment world? I’ve loved singing since I was a kid. She was a girl who admired a singer by watching Taiwanese and Chinese TV song programs. When she turned 18, she was a big girl. She applied for an audition for Idol and there were 20,000 applicants, but she was really happy to be selected as only five successful candidates. I made my debut. I was in second place. She made her debut in 1968.

『ゴジラ対メカゴジラ』に出演前に6年間の キャリアがあったんですね。

You had a six-year career before appearing in “Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla.”

鄭 そうです。演技と歌の両方をやっていました が、どっちかというと歌がメインでした。 レコー ドを何枚も出したけれどタイトルは忘れてしまいました(笑)。

[Bellbella Lin:] That’s right. I was doing both acting and singing, but the main one was singing. I put out a lot of records, but forgot the titles (laughs).

日本に渡ったのはいつで、何がきっかけだったんですか。

When did you move to Japan and what made you decide?

鄭 まさに『ゴジラ対メカゴジラ』出演です。東 宝から渡辺プロダクションに、『ゴジラ対メカゴ ジラ』に出演する歌手をマネジメントして欲しい という依頼があったそうです。

日本では渡辺プロの所属だったんですか。

鄭 はい、その頃は、台湾出身の欧陽菲菲 (オウ ヤン・フイフイ)がとても人気があった。彼女も 渡辺プロでした。最初、東宝は、欧陽菲菲をこの 映画に出したかったとも聞いています。でも、お 話から若い方がいいと判断されて、私が選ばれた と聞いています。

鄭 (映像を見る) 恥ずかしい(笑)。 満足のいく演技とは言えないと思います･･････ (笑)。

でも、流暢な日本語を話していますよ。まる で吹き替えかと。あなたの声でしょうか。

But you speak fluent Japanese. It’s like dubbing. Is it your voice?

鄭 はい、短いからですね。日本の女の子の役をやるのに心配もありましたが、台本を読んでセリフが少なくて、これならやれそうだと少し安心しました。でも、母がいたから出来たんです。母が口移しで丁寧に教えてくれなかったら上手くできなかったと思います。

Yes, I was short. I was worried about playing the role of a Japanese girl, but after reading the script, I was a little relieved that I could do it because there were few lines. But I was able to do it because I had a mother. I think I wouldn’t have done well if my mother hadn’t told me politely.

共演者の方々の思い出はありますか。

Do you have any memories of the co-stars?

鄭 祖父役の方は共演が多くてよく覚えています。 実際はまだ若かったですよ(笑)。 ユニークな演 技がお上手な、器用な方だったんでしょう。

I remember the role of grandfather because he often co-starred. He was actually still young (laughs). He must have been a dexterous person who was good at unique performances.

今福将雄さん、老け役が多い方です。 他の共演者の方はいかがですか。

Masao Imafuku, who has many old roles. How about other co-stars?

鄭 残念ながら日本語ができませんから、あまりどなたとも交流はできなくて、みなさんの印象はあまり… メイクさん、結髪の方、衣装さんなど は、すごく親切にしてくださって、よく覚えてい ます。

Unfortunately, I can’t speak Japanese, so I can’t interact with anyone so much, and everyone’s impression is so much … Makeup, hairdressers, costumes, etc. are very kind and I remember it well.

日本の映画の現場は台湾とは違いはありましたか。

Was the Japanese movie scene different from Taiwan?

鄭 まず、日本と台湾では映画の市場の規模がまったく違います。台湾の人口が日本の6分の1ほどです。ですから市場も違えば、現場も違う。台湾の映画界はスタッフを多く雇用できる予算がな く、つまりスタッフが幾つものパートを兼任して撮影を進めていかねばなりません。その点、日本はスタッフがそれぞれ専門職で、全体人数が多いです。

First of all, the size of the movie market is completely different between Japan and Taiwan. Taiwan’s population is about one-sixth that of Japan. Therefore, different markets and different sites. The Taiwanese film industry does not have the budget to hire a large number of staff, which means that the staff must work on several parts at the same time. In that respect, the staff in Japan are professionals, and the total number of people is large.

流石、今はテレビドラマのプロデューサーをされているだけあって、的確な説明をされますね。

鄭 そうですか(笑)。でも当時からそう感じました。

歌の録音はどこでされましたか。

Where was the song recorded?

鄭 東宝かビクターのスタジオで録音しました。 歌の先生はたしか、東宝のオーナーの親せきと聞きました。録音は沖縄ロケに行く前だったと思います。

It was recorded at Toho or Victor studio. I heard that the song teacher is a relative of the owner of Toho. I think the recording was before I went to the Okinawa location.

あなたが歌ったのは、劇中でも流れた「ミヤラビの祈り」と、レコード用の「メカゴジラをやっつけろ」ですね。作曲はどちらも佐藤勝さんといって、黒澤明監督の映画音楽でも世界的に知られる方です。佐藤さんの印象はいかがですか。

You sang “Prayer of Miyarabi” that was played in the play and “Attack MechaGodzilla” for the record. Both composers are Masaru Sato, who is known worldwide for the film music directed by Akira Kurosawa. What is your impression of Mr. Sato?

鄭 佐藤さんという方は、私は知らないです。もしかすると、少し はお会いしたのかもしれません が、直接に私に歌などの指導はされなかったんでしょう。指導してくれた方は今も写真があります。

I don’t know Mr. Sato. Perhaps we met a little, but he didn’t teach me singing directly. I don’t know Mr. Sato. The person who taught me still has pictures.

「ミヤラビの祈り」は映画の 中ではアップテンポで、レコード ではゆったりしたテンポです。どちらも同じときに録音されましたか。

“Miyarabi’s Prayer” is up-tempo in the movie and relaxed in the record. Were both recorded at the same time?

鄭 そうだと思います。録音は1日だったと思います。

I think so. I think the recording was one day.

あなたのこのレコード「ミヤ ラビの祈り」は私が初めて買ったレコードです。あなたはこれを何枚か記念にもらったりしたでしょうね。

Your record “Prayer of Miyarabi” is the first record I bought. You might have received some of this as a memorial.

鄭 (当時のシングル盤を見て) いいえ、私 はもらっていませんね。実はレコードが出ていたことを、今、初めて知りました。

(Looking at the single at that time) No, I didn’t get it. For the first time, I learned that a record was actually released.

えっ?

鄭 映画の中で使う歌の録音だと説明されて歌い ましたが、レコードになったのは知らなかったですよ。

I was told that it was a recording of a song used in a movie, but I didn’t know it was a record.

それは驚きました。ある意味で失礼なことですね。

I was surprised. It’s rude in a sense.

鄭 まあ、確かに。でも昔のことです(笑)。

「ミヤラビの祈り」の日本語の歌詞はどうやってマスターされたでしょうか。

How was the Japanese lyrics of “Miyarabi’s Prayer” mastered?

鄭 母が平仮名で書いてくれたのと、口移しですね。

My mother wrote it in hiragana, and orally?

非常にロマンチックな甘いメロディで、まるでラブソングのようなムードの歌ですね。

It’s a very romantic sweet melody, and it’s a song with a mood like a love song.

鄭 そうですか。 歌い手としてはラブソングというイメージは持っていませんでした。

Is that so? As a singer, I didn’t have the image of a love song.

どのように解釈されていましたか。

How was it interpreted?

鄭「神様に向かって祈る」というつもりで歌いました。

I sang with the intention of “praying to God.”

それはまさにその通りです! そういう気持ちで歌うように指導されたんでしょうか。

That’s right! We’re you instructed to sing with that feeling?

鄭 それもあったかもしれません。神様目覚めてください、私たちをお守りくださいと……。

It may have been that too. Please wake up God, please protect us …

映画の中で、沖縄の浜で歌っています。このときの思い出といいますと。

In the movie, you sing at the beach in Okinawa. What are the memories of this time?

鄭 寒かったんですよ、実は。ですから合間には上着を着せてもらったり、寒さをカバーしてもらいながら撮影しました。日本のスタッフは皆さん優しかったですね。

It was cold, actually. So, in the meantime, I had my jacket put on and I was covered in the cold. The Japanese staff were all kind.

撮影は1月のことだったようですからね。 沖縄でも薄着では寒かったでしょう。いろいろなアングルから撮影されています。かなり時間を掛けた撮影だったでしょうか。

It seems that the shooting was in January. Even in Okinawa, it would have been cold in light clothing. It is shot from various angles. Was it a long time shooting?

鄭 (映像を見て)いえ、そう長く時間をかけたり、何度も歌った覚えはないので、いくつかのカメラを同時に回したのではないでしょうか。

(Looking at the video) No, I don’t remember spending so long or singing many times, so I think several cameras were turned at the same time.

ところで、映画の中で「ミヤラビの祈り」は2番まであなたは歌います。そして歌い終わったところで、祈りが通じて、怪獣キングシーサーが目覚めます。これは「少し長い」「1番で起きて 「いい」という声もあるのですが(笑)。

By the way, in the movie, you sing “Miyarabi’s Prayer” up to number 2. And when the singing is over, prayer goes through and the monster King Caesar wakes up. Some people say that this is “a little long” and “it’s okay to get up at number 1” (laughs).

まあ、そうですか(笑)。どうかしら。私が決めたのではないから･･････(笑)。

Well, that’s right (laughs). I wonder. I didn’t decide … (laughs).

キングシーサーという怪獣に対して思い入れなどは?

What are your thoughts on the King Caesar monster?

鄭 思い入れや思い出というよりも、忘れることはけっしてないということです。キングシーサー見ると、優しくて親切だった日本のスタッフを思い出します。

It’s more about never forgetting than feelings and memories. Looking at King Caesar reminds me of the kind and friendly Japanese staff.

あなたのベルベラ・リーンという芸名は、日本でのデビュー時につけられたものですか。

Did your stage name Bellbella Lin come from your debut in Japan?

鄭 はい、そうです。日本でしか使っていない名 前です。

Yes, it is. It is a name that is used only in Japan.

決めたのはどなたでしょうか。

Who decided?

鄭 私をマネジメントしていた渡辺プロのチーム が決めました。台湾や中国のアイドルが日本の芸能界に多かった一種のブームの時代で、テレサ・ テンさんなどもいましたから。それらしい響きにしたのでしょうね。リンというのは母方の姓から 取っているんですよ。 漢字では「林」です。ベルベラは、鈴や鐘のイメージです。

The team of Watanabe Productions who managed me decided. It was a kind of boom era when Taiwanese and Chinese idols were common in the Japanese entertainment world, and there were also Teresa Teng and others. I think it sounded like that. Rin is taken from her maternal surname. In Chinese, it is “Hayashi.” Bellbella is an image of a bell or a chime.

でも、見つからないのは当然ですね。日本だけの 芸名だったのだから。

鄭 そうです。台湾ではタレント時代も、現在の プロデューサー業も、本名の鄭秀英で活動してい ます。ベルベラ・リーンでは私の近況が出てくることはないでしょうね。でも、探していただけて いたなんて、とっても光栄なことですね。 ――いつ、出る側から作る側に転身されたんですか。

That’s right. In Taiwan, I am active under my real name, Jung Soo-young, both in my talent era and in my current producer business. I don’t think they will be able to see what’s happening under Bellbella Lin. But it’s a great honor for me to be there.

When did you change from performing side out to producing side?

鄭 1980年ごろです。

It was around 1980.

『ゴジラ対メカゴジラ』から、わずか6年後にはタレント業からは離れた。

Only six years after “Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla”, you left the talent industry.

鄭 そうです。一度は東宝レコードから『舞姫』というレコードを 出しまして、東宝レコードの所属 歌手にならないかという話もあり ました。でも台湾に戻って活動し て、しばらくして歌手はやめました。

That’s right. I once released a record called “Maihime” from Toho Records, and I was asked if I could become a singer belonging to Toho Records. But I returned to Taiwan and I was active, and after a while I quit singing.

なぜおやめになったんでしょう。
Why did you stop?

鄭 それはさきほどの台湾の映像 制作現場にスタッフが少ないということにも通じます。人口が少ないから、タレントは日本のように十分にマネージャーがつかないのでマネジメントもこなす。売り込みや営業活動も自身で行う。私はそこまで自分でする力がないと感じたんです。 前に立つ人と後ろ から押す人をひとりではできない。そういう点で はタレントに向いていなかったのでしょう。それで見習いのプロデューサーから始めて、やがて一本立ちしたのです。

鄭 いえ、日本でいえばNHKのような公営放送でなので、著作権の問題などで海外では今のところ ご覧いただけないのですよ。私は家族のドラマな ど普遍的なテーマを扱っていますので、日本の方 にも機会があれば見ていただきたいものです。今 はとっても充実しています。毎日睡眠時間を惜しんで新作の企画を進めています。

No, in Japan it’s a public broadcaster like NHK, so you can’t watch it overseas at the moment due to copyright issues. I’m in a family drama, but it deals with universal themes, so I would like Japanese people to see it if they have the opportunity. It’s very fulfilling now. We spare no sleep every day and are planning new works.

とてもお忙しいようですが、機会があれば日 本のファンの前で映画の思い出などを語っていた だくことはできますか。

It seems that you are very busy, but if you have the opportunity, can you talk about the memories of the movie in front of Japanese fans?

鄭 はい、日本には26年も行っていませんが、も望まれれば、皆さんとお話してみたいです。

鄭 いえ、皆さんの夢を壊すわけにはいきません。 もう昔のように歌うことはできませんから。でも 握手したりお話しできたら素敵ですね!

1950年5月10日、中華民国台湾中南部の嘉義県出身 で台北育ち。中国電視公司のアイドル募集に合格して18 歳でデビュー。74年 『ゴジラ対メカゴジラ」出演のため 来日、国頭那美を演じた。 劇中歌「ミヤラビの祈り」は「メ カゴジラをやっつけろ」とカップリングでリリース。 同 年、なかにし礼作詞、司啓介作曲のシングル「舞姫」を リリース。現在は自身のオフィス、金享亮企業有限公司 を構えて、ドラマプロデューサーとして多忙な日々。

Born May 10, 1950 in Chiayi County, central and southern Taiwan, and raised in Taipei. She made her debut at the age of 18 after passing the idol recruitment of China Television. She came to Japan in 1974 for her appearance in “Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla,” and she played Nami Kunigami. The song “Miyarabi’s Prayer” in the movie was released as a coupling with “Attack MechaGodzilla.” In the same year, she released her single “Maihime” written by Rei Nakanishi and composed by Keisuke Tsukasa.
