卵から生まれた小さなゴジラ、ベビーゴジラ。ゴジラの子どもとも言えるベビーゴジラを徹底解剖する。

Baby Godzilla, a small Godzilla born from an egg. A thorough dissection of Baby Godzilla, which can be said to be Godzilla’s child.

まぶたが半分下りた眠たげな目が、大人しい性格を感じさせる。

The sleepy eyes with the half drooping eyelids give a sense of a quiet personality.

不安や恐怖を感じると目が赤く発光する。卵の時から赤い発光は 観測された。

Its eyes glow red when it feels anxious or frightened. Red luminescence was observed from egg stage.

表情が細やかに表現できる上半身のメカニカルが使用された。他にも尻や 足首などのパーツが作られ、生物感を高めるのに効果を上げた。

A mechanical upper body that can express facial expressions in detail was used. Other parts such as the buttocks and ankles were also made, which was effective in enhancing the sense of life.

背ビレの形はトゲが2本のV字型。成体のゴジラザウルスより立派な背ビレだ。

The shape of the dorsal fin is V-shaped with two thorns. The dorsal fin is more splendid than an adult Godzillasaurus.

雑食性で、与えられるままに花やハンバーガーを食べた。

He were omnivorous and ate flowers and hamburgers as they were given to them.

ベビーゴジラの体を調べ第2の脳の存在が明らかになった。

平成シリーズもついにゴジラの子どもが登場した。といってもゴジラ自身の子どもではなく、ゴジラの元となったゴジラザウルスの幼体であるが、ゴジラにとっては世界でただ一体の同族であり、ベビーに対してわが子のような執着と保護本能を示す。ベビーゴジラを調べることで、ゴジラの習性や体の構造が明らかになったという意味でも重要な存在である。

Godzilla’s child has finally appeared in the Heisei series. Even though he is not Godzilla’s own child, he is a juvenile of Godzillasaurus, the origin of Godzilla, but for Godzilla, he is the only one in the world, and he has an obsession and protective instinct for a baby like his own child. By studying Baby Godzilla, he is an important existence in the sense that Godzilla’s habits and body structure have been clarified.

尻尾の先端にゴジラの「ものと同じ形の小さな背ビレがある。

At the tip of his tail, there is a small dorsal fin with the same shape as Godzilla’s.

成体のゴジラザウルスと同じく足の指は3本爪があるのも同様だが、より第4の指に近い。

Like an adult Godzillasaurus, he has three nails on his toes, but he has more like a fourth toe.

ゴジラとはある種のテレバシーのようなもので結ばれており、遠く離れていてもお互いの位置を知ることができる。ただ電磁波を遮する壁の中までは感知できないようで、ミニラが強力脳波でゴジラを呼んでいたのに近いかもしれない。

It is connected with Godzilla by a kind of telepathy, and can know each other’s position even if he is far away. However, he doesn’t seem to be able to detect the inside of the wall that blocks electromagnetic waves, so it may be similar to Minya calling Godzilla with a powerful brain wave.

ベビーゴジラは、その存在を巡ってゴジラ・ラドン人類が相争う、物語の中心となるキャラクターである。等身大で俳優と共演するため、特撮班 (川 北組)ではなく、本編班(大河原組)の担当であり、筆者は川北特技監督から派遣される形で本編班に出向き、デザイン作業を行った。

Baby Godzilla is a central character in the story, where Godzilla and Rodan race against each other for its existence. In order to co-star with the actors in life-size, I was in charge of the main story team (Ogawara group), not the special effects team (Kawakita group).

デザインの方向性はさまざまにあり得たが、あくまで恐竜の子どもであること、俳優との共演は特撮セットとは違うレベルのリアルさが必要との判断から、生物感重視でいくことになったのだが、川北監督の思いとは少し違ったようである。

There were various possible directions for the design, but it was decided that he would be a child of a dinosaur, and that co-starring with an actor needed a different level of realism than a special effects set, so it was decided to focus on the sense of life. However, it seems that Kawakita’s thoughts were a little different.

結果、特撮班主導となった次回作では同一人物(?)とは思えない外見に成長した姿を見せることとなる。

As a result, in the next work led by the special effects team, he will show a grown-up appearance that makes it hard to believe that he is the same creature (?).
