It was an ordinary Saturday morning. Then it all changed when the door bell rang! There it was the X-Plus Toho 30-cm Series Yuji Sakai Collection Godzilla 1991 Gidogoji Hokkaido Version (東宝30cm 酒井ゆうじ造形コレクション ゴジラ(1991)ギドゴジ北海道バージョン 完成品フィギュア) in all its glory straight from AmiAmi.com via EMS. I thought the Sakai 1989 Godzilla was fierce, but the ’91 is a great exemplar of Sakai’s work.

Godzilla stands in at about 28 cm high and little over 46 cm long. The tail is long extending up into the air as it should be requiring a semi-translucent base for support. Yuji Sakai’s sculpt captures the moment with Godzilla sets foot in Hokkaido. This is one of my favorite Godzilla suits, particularly his angry brow, focused eyes, narrow snout, elongated nose, large chest, knobby knuckles, thick legs, perfect dorsal fins, with his well-animated slender tail. The suit and appearance of Gidogoji Hokkaido could be considered the best of the Heisei era.
X-Plus is an exception line of vinyl Godzilla figures. Every Godzilla fan and collector should have at least one in his or her collection. Get it before Godzilla 1991 gets away!
