GIGANTIS, THE FIRE MONSTER (1957)

“Godzilla Raids Again” was distributed by Warner Bros. Films in the United States and released worldwide as “GIGANTIS, THE FIRE MONSTER.” At that time, as a speculation on the American side, a new part of the monster was planned. It was a far-reaching plan in which GIGANTIS and ANGIURUS, which emerged from the Philippine archipelago, landed in Osaka, had a decisive battle on Nakanoshima as in the play, and then crossed the sea and landed in the United States.

Therefore, Toho made new Godzilla and Anguirus costumes and sent them to the other side as requested. This case has been successful with “THE HALF HUMAN,” which was sent overseas with a costume child Yukio in “Beastman Yukio,” which was distributed overseas. However, due to unfamiliarity with costume tokusatsu and various problems such as a huge budget, this plan (leaving only two photos) disappeared.

For a long time, the transformation of costumes from Godzilla Raids Again to Kingoji was too extreme for modeling fans to understand. In other words, there was a missing link in evolution. This newly created Gigantis was the identity that connected the two. It has lost its ears and its toenails have degenerated into three. In addition, the volume appeared in the figure, and it became somewhat humorous. The face of the original Godzilla, the dorsal fin of Godzilla counter-attacking, and the body shape of Kingoji. A hybrid Godzilla. The portraits of the modeling staff on the color page show Teizo Toshimitsu, Kanju Yagi, Eizo Kaimai, and Yoshio Suzuki, so it is assumed to be around 1957.
