The Class of 1968

6.20.14

I admit that I made a mistake. I didn’t know what I was doing. Since I’ve been in Japan, every weekend I take a long 10+ mile walk and along the way I visit a series of toy stores. Mandarake is the best of them all.

Today at Mandarake I ran across so many goodies that I had to leave behind. Most significantly, I found the X-Plus 30cm 1968 Godzilla. It was 40,000 yen! Yikes! I couldn’t afford it and there was no way to pack it or carry it on the plane. With that said I was confused. I thought the 25cm release was the only version available. Was I wrong!

When I got back to my apartment, I went to Kaiju Addicts, the best guide on the web for all things X-Plus. I clarified what I had purchased back from Mandarake. It was the Ric Boy X-Plus Toho Large Monster Series (25cm) Godzilla Destroy All Monsters 1968, 怪獣総進撃 (東宝大怪獣シリーズ 「ゴジラ(1968年版)」 少年リック限定版). Then I realized back in April I had confused the 25cm version with its counterpart in the X-Plus Toho 30cm Series. Subsequently, I canceled a pre-order of the re-release. Oh no! So today, I ordered it again. Buying Diamond from the US is much cheaper. I hope I’m not too late.

Lesson learned! There are two X-Plus series to distinguish: X-Plus Toho Large Monsters Series (25cm) and the X-Plus Toho 30cm Series.
