Pandemic Surprise

5.30.2020

As we go through this pandemic storm, there have been some tough days but there has also been some blessed days. Thursday was one of them when to my surprise the box I had been waiting for arrive unannounced and unanticipated. After almost a two-month delay and sitting somewhere in Tokyo awaiting a flight to the US, my box arrived finally! I have been salivating over this figure since the Yuji Sakai kit version was teased at Wonder Fest several years ago. My preorder went in right away when it popped up on Hobby Search Japan. But then covid-19 broke out in the US, grounding flights and shipping along with it. To be honest I had given up hope on receiving this figure anytime soon. But then the doorbell rung, and there was the Toho 30cm Series Yuji Sakai Modeling Collection Godzilla (1984) “The final battle at Shinjuku” (酒井ゆうじ造形コレクション ゴジラ(1984) 新宿副都心決戦 一般流通版).

As of now this is my figure of the year. What an incredible sculpt by Master Yuji Sakai. As far as I’m concerned, this Godzilla 1984 sculpt is flawless. Every angle is spot on. The detail of the eyes is so well done.

The dorsal fins are painted with a tint of blue rather than off-white. The crown of its head, brow, nose, mouth and teeth capture this cinematic incarnation as it appears on screen. The tail is long as it should be.

I love the soft texture and feel of the vinyl. The figure is wrapped up in a great box. I don’t know a better representation of this Godzilla in vinyl.

I hope you are having good days during these uncertain days. Take pleasure in the little things and enjoy your time at home to the fullest. If you don’t have this Godzilla 1984 in your collection, get your hands on it. You won’t be disappointed.
