Nozilla is here! Never heard of Nozilla? Nozilla is the childhood kaiju figure created and designed by Noger Chen and produced by Black Seed Toys. Noger Chen is a Creative Director, graphic designer and illustrator in Taipei, Taiwan. Noger has been known for creating beautiful illustrated Godzilla size charts posted across social media. I came to know his work, that includes Godzilla art and toy photography, several years ago. I recall seeing his rendering of Nozilla (seen below) on Flickr over a year ago.
Nozilla caught my attention because it perfectly captured the life and experience of the Godzilla and kaiju fan who looks like Godzilla holding tight to his VHS tape, Nintendo, and Dragon Ball manga. Some time later, I saw that he was planning to produce the Nozilla figure. I really wanted to preorder it at the time, but it feel out of view. Well, about a month ago I saw a fan tweet photos of the figure and a link to purchase it. And now, I’ve got it!
Nozilla a collaboration between Taiwan and Hong Kong, based on Noger Chen’s painting with Black Seed doing the modeling. This handsome figure comes in the classic toy figure blister packaging with great art on front and back. Nozilla is written in Japanese (ノジラ) with セハンジェ怪獣 written above it.
Nozilla’s shirt has the Chinese characters 林士 across his chest. It is difficult to translate. 林 can mean “collection” and 士, “gentleman.” The Chinese characters (林士) are also used in Rumsey Street (林士街), located in Hong Kong. “The street was named in 1905 after Robert Murray Rumsey, the Harbour Master of Hong Kong Government” (Wikipedia).
The video tape reads「大恐龍」translated “Great Dinosaur.” I believe「科幻片」is Chinese meaning “science fiction movie.”
Nozilla is $64.99 USD. Orders for Nozilla can be placed on myplasticheart. I now have Nozilla proudly displayed among the figures I keep on my work desk.
