GSV Godzilla Suite Variation

■GS-03

7年間のブランクをおいて、昭和37年に「キングコング対ゴジラ」が企画され, 3タイプめのゴジラが誕生した。この作品からゴジラシリーズもカラー化され, 初めてゴジラの色が画面に現れた。ゴジラの色は 初代から黒にちかいダークグレーに,青などがまじっているというものだったが, フィルム化されると照明やカラー調整, 現像のコンディションなどにより, 本書のカラーページにあるような色になってしまう。このゴジラの色と体表の凹凸はすべて計算されており、照明のかげんによってあの重量感が表現されるのだ。

After a seven-year hiatus, “King Kong vs. Godzilla” was planned in 1962, and the third type of Godzilla was born. From this work, the Godzilla series was also colorized, and the color of Godzilla appeared on the screen for the first time. From the first generation, the color of Godzilla was dark gray, almost black, mixed with blue, etc., but when it was made into film, it changed to the color shown in the color page of this book due to lighting, color adjustment, and development conditions. The color and unevenness of the body surface of this Godzilla are all calculated, and the feeling of weight is expressed by the lighting effect.

GS-03は, 02の欠点であった横向きのフォルムが美しく改善された反面, 向きによって顔に多少難が見うけられる。耳がなくなり、足のつめも3本にカットされた。また, 技術の進歩により, 頭の中に機電が組みこまれ、オレンジ色の眼光を発したり、の開閉も可能になった。デザイン的に も、背びれの線が整理され, 美しい流れになった。

The GS-03 has improved the sideways form, which was a drawback of the 02, beautifully, but on the other hand, there are some difficulties in the face depending on the orientation. He lost his ears and his toenails were cut into three pieces. In addition, due to the advancement of technology, electromechanics have been built into the head, making it possible to emit orange eyes and open and close eyes. In terms of design, the line of the dorsal fin was also arranged and it became a beautiful flow.

04は「モスラ対ゴジラ」に登場したもので、マニアのあいだで”モスゴジ。と呼ばれている(前作のは”キンゴジ”)。全体が丸みをおびて、以 後の体形の基本となっている。この04タイプは, A ,B2種のスーツが作られ、撮影に使用されたが, よほど注意して観察しないと判別ができない。

04 appeared in “Mothra vs. Godzilla” and is called “Mosugoji” among maniacs (KingGoji in the previous work). For this 04 type, two types of suits, A and B, were made and used for filming, but it is impossible to distinguish between them without careful observation.

04タイプのAは、名古屋襲撃のゴジラで、ほおが震えるのが特徴。Bは、おもにモスラ戦に登場。首と足がAより細長く、顔の処理も少しちがう。A、Bとも顔をして「地球最大の決戦」に登場した(5)は、のちにテレビの「ウルトラQ」のゴメスに改造。

04 type A is Godzilla attacking Nagoya, characterized by trembling cheeks. B mainly appears in Mothra battles. His neck and legs are longer than A, and his face is slightly different. (5), who appeared in “Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster” with both A and B faces, was later remodeled into Gomez of TV’s “Ultra Q.”

昭和40年の「怪獣大戦争」に新調されたゴジラスーツ。よりスムーズに動けるようになった分だけ人間型にちかづき, 頭部も大きくなった。 04タイプとの決定的相違点は顔つきと, 下半身にかけてのうろこの流れである。

A new Godzilla suit for the 1965 “Invasion Astro Monster.” As it became able to move more smoothly, it became closer to a humanoid shape, and its head became larger. The decisive difference from the 04 type is the face and the flow of scales on the lower body.

また,このときも, ゴジラスーツは1体だけではなく、別のスーツ(05B) も同時に製作されているらしく、あこの形がちがいほおのスリットや鼻がつぶれているもの がみうけられる。

Also, at this time, not only one Godzilla suit, but another suit (05B) seems to have been produced at the same time, and we can see slits on cheeks with different shapes and ones with flattened noses.

ジラースのあと,05タイプは「南海の大決闘」に修復されて2体が登場。写真の05AIIとBIIである。

After Jiras, the 05 type was repaired in the “Ebirah, Horror of the Deep” and two bodies appeared. They are 05A II and B II in the photo.

■GS-06

昭和42年に「ゴジラの息子」が製作されゴジラスーツも新しくなった。今回 はひさしぶりに、ゴジラと登場怪獣全部の粘土原型も作られた。今回のスーツG S-06の特徴は、息子のミニラとの対比を考えて、以前より大がらに作られていることだ。親ゴジラとしての身長差を出したのはよいが, そのためにむくんだような体形になってしまい、これまで発展してきたゴジラスタイルとちがってしまった。背びれの形にも難はあるが、やはり最大の欠点は, 肥大した顔で、いかにもおやじふうというところだろう。

In 1967, “Godzilla’s Son” was produced and the Godzilla suit was renewed. This time, for the first time in a long time, clay prototypes of Godzilla and all the monsters appearing were also made. The feature of this suit GS-06 is that it is made larger than before, considering the contrast with his son’s Minya. It’s good to have a height difference as a parent Godzilla, but because of that, he has a swollen body shape, which is different from the Godzilla style that has developed so far. The shape of the dorsal fin is also a problem, but the biggest drawback is the bloated face, which makes it look like an old man.

■SGS-05

ゴジラスーツが古くなると、水中撮影用の”海ゴジラ”にされてしまう。 「モスラ対ゴジラ」で海に落ちたのはキンゴジだった。左の写真は, 頭部を06ふうに改造された05AⅡで、「息子」から「へドラ」まで海ゴジラを務めた。

When the Godzilla suit gets old, it becomes a “sea Godzilla” for underwater photography. It was KinGoji who fell into the sea in “Mothra vs. Godzilla.” The picture on the left is 05AII with its head remodeled to look like 06, and served as Sea Godzilla from “Son” to “Hedorah”.

■SGS-06

06タイプも海ゴジラとして5年ぶりに登場。「ゴジラ対ガイガン」で、アンギラスとともに海を渡るシーンにのみ出演した。これは、それまでのSGS-05がへドラ戦で泥まみれになり、以後使 用不可能になったためだ。

The 06 type also appeared for the first time in five years as Godzilla of the sea. In “Godzilla vs. Gigan,” he appeared only in the scene of crossing the sea with Anguirus. This is because the previous SGS-05 was covered in mud during the Hedorah battle and became unusable after that.
