In Dr. Yamane’s remark of “Godzilla,” “an intermediate type creature that was in the process of evolving from a sea reptile that lived extremely rarely to a land beast,” but judging from this, it is premature to assume that Godzilla is a member of Tyrannosaurus and Allosaurus just because it looks similar. Marine reptiles are sea-dwelling dinosaurs such as the Jurassic Ichthyosaurus and Plesiosaurus, and the Cretaceous Mosasaurus, most of which feed on cephalopods such as ammonites and belemnites. Mosasaurus is the most powerful sea dragon among them.

Plesiosaurus is a genus of extinct, large marine sauropterygian reptile that lived during the Early Jurassic. It is known by nearly complete skeletons from the Lias of England. (Source: Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plesiosaurus)

Mosasaurus is the type genus of the mosasaurs, an extinct group of aquatic squamate reptiles. It lived from about 82 to 66 million years ago during the Campanian and Maastrichtian stages of the Late Cretaceous. (Source: Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosasaurus)

Ichthyosaurs are large extinct marine reptiles. Ichthyosaurs belong to the order known as Ichthyosauria or Ichthyopterygia. (Source: Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichthyosaur)

A cephalopod is any member of the molluscan class Cephalopoda such as a squid, octopus, cuttlefish, or nautilus. These exclusively marine animals are characterized by bilateral body symmetry, a prominent head, and a set of arms or tentacles modified from the primitive molluscan foot. (Source: Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cephalopod)

Ammonoids are a group of extinct marine mollusc animals in the subclass Ammonoidea of the class Cephalopoda. These molluscs, commonly referred to as ammonites, are more closely related to living coleoids than they are to shelled nautiloids such as the living Nautilus species. (Source: Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammonoidea)

Belemnitida is an extinct order of squid-like cephalopods that existed from the Late Triassic to Late Cretaceous. Unlike squid, belemnites had an internal skeleton that made up the cone. The parts are, from the arms-most to the tip: the tongue-shaped pro-ostracum, the conical phragmocone, and the pointy guard. (Source: Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belemnitida)

As Dr. Yamane said, there was no fact that marine reptiles evolved into terrestrial beasts, and they became extinct in the late Cretaceous along with other dinosaurs. However, if Godzilla is seen as an evolution from sea reptiles, Mosasaurus (Fig. —A) seems to be applicable.

The first Godzilla disappeared into the water with the underwater oxygen destroyer Oxygen Destroyer invented by Dr. Serizawa, but at that time a part of the whole body skeleton was visible. However, if you think of it as a dinosaur, it’s too delicate and I don’t think it can support a huge weight. So, as you can imagine, an attempt to recreate Godzilla’s whole body skeleton has been tried. (Fig.-B)
