Godzilla, Osaka and Me

12.16.2020

Godzilla owns December. Nineteen Godzilla movies were released in the month of December. Today, Godzilla vs Biollante was released in 1989, joining Son of Godzilla (1967) and Godzilla x Megagirasu (2000). A significant portion of Godzilla vs Biollante takes place in the city of Osaka. And over the last few years, I visited Osaka and it has become very dear to me. Tokyo continues to be my main stomping grown, but increasing Osaka has a major destination for all things Godzilla. My first visit was for only a half day. Getting to Osaka from Tokyo takes at least three hours by Shinkansen (a 45-minute train ride from Kyoto). So making that trip usually requires a stay over night if you want to really enjoy just some of what Osaka has to offer. My main Osaka destination for shopping is Den Den Town, where you will be overwhelmed. During my trip to Osaka Last year, I visited many Godzilla places. Although I was focused on locations for Godzilla Raids Again (1955), everywhere I went there was Godzilla vs Biollante place. I began at Osaka Castle walking along the Neya and Daini Neya Rivers to Twin 21.
