この作品で、これまでの全てのゴジラ映画に終止符を打ちたかった。

With this film, I wanted to put an end to all previous Godzilla movies.

2000年の「ゴジラ×メガギラス」、昨年の「ゴジラ×メカゴジラ」と、美しき戦うヒロインを主人公に憧れのゴジラ映画を作らせて頂きまし た。今回は、前作がとても面白かったということで、その続編にあたる作品を引き続き手がけさせて頂きましたこと、とても光栄に思っています。

2000’s “Godzilla x Megaguirus” and last year’s “Godzilla x MechaGodzilla,” I made a aspiring Godzilla movie with a beautiful fighting heroine as the main character. This time, I am very honored to continue working on the sequel to the previous work, which was very interesting.

今回、ドラマを引っ張っていく主人公は、前作の続編ではありますが、戦うヒロイン・家城茜ではなく、機龍の整備士をつとめる中條義人という青年。特生自衛隊の前線の隊員たちをバックアップする人間です。 なぜ整備士を主人公にしたのか。 そうすることで戦う人たちの意義を浮き彫りにすることができると思ったからです。

Although it is a sequel to the previous work, the hero who leads the drama this time is not the fighting heroine Akane Ieshiro, but a young man named Yoshito Nakajo, who works as a mechanic for Kiryu. He is the person who backs up the front line members of the Tokusei Self-Defense Force. Why did you make the mechanic the main character? I thought that by doing so, I would be able to highlight the significance of those who fought.

義人はこの物語の中で様々なことに悩んだり考えたりしながら成長していきます。そういう意味ではいわゆるヒーローとは程遠い存在です。 が、映画の後半には男らしく立ち上がります。そんな彼に映画をすから。

Selfless people grow up while worrying and thinking about various things in this story. In that sense, he is far from being a so-called hero. However, in the second half of the movie, he stands up like a man. I want to make a movie about him.

今回の作品の中の機龍は前作以上に大活躍します。そもそも前作を作った時、機龍はメカだという意識よりも、私の中では機龍は初代 のゴジラなんです。今回東京へやってくる2匹目のゴジラは、初代のゴジラの息子だと思っています。その息子が、 父親のゴジラの骨を使って機龍を作った人間におとしまえをつけようと東京にやってくる。でもそこに立ちはだかるのは親である機龍。ゾクゾクするシチュ エーションだと思いませんか? そこに私が大好きなモスラも加わって、物語はクライマックスへと向かいます。

Kiryu in this work is more active than the previous work. In the first place, when I made the previous work, rather than thinking that Kiryu was a mecha, Kiryu was the first Godzilla in my mind. I believe that the second Godzilla coming to Tokyo this time is the son of the original Godzilla. The son comes to Tokyo to pay tribute to the man who used his father’s Godzilla bones to create Kiryu. But what stands in the way is the parent Kiryu. Don’t you think he’s a thrilling situation? Mothra, who I love, joins in and the story goes to the climax.

ラストでは2匹のゴジラにとんでもないことが起こります。詳しく は映画を見てのお楽しみですが、監督をつとめた私としては、この作品でこれまでの全てのゴジラ映画に終止符を打とうと心密かに決意し、考えに考えた結末です。

In the last, a terrible thing happens to the two Godzillas. I’m looking forward to seeing the movie in detail, but as a director, I secretly decided to put an end to all Godzilla movies so far with this work, and I thought about the ending.

2004年はゴジラ生誕50周年の年。きっと全く新しいゴジラ映画が超大作としてスクリーンに登場する筈です。

2004 is the year of Godzilla’s 50th anniversary. Surely a completely new Godzilla movie should appear on the screen as a blockbuster.

その50周年作品を前に、きちんとピリオドを打ちたかった。

Before the 50th anniversary work, I wanted to hit the period properly.

そんな私のゴジラに対する、ゴジラ映画に対する想いを少しでも感じて頂けたら嬉しいです。
