Congratulations to Shin Godzilla on an historic night at the 40th Japan Academy Price (日本アカデミー賞) awards. Shin Godzilla took home awards in 7 categories even beating out the popular anime “Your Name.” Shin Godzilla received the Best Picture Award along with Best Director Award among others. This evening validates the work of Anno Hideaki and Shinji Higuchi and their vision of Godzilla. Shin Godzilla was a blockbuster by Japan’s standards bringing in over $80 million USD domestically and internationally. This film has received its critical claim and should rightfully be regarded as one of the most significant Godzilla films in history. Below are the award winners and the seven categories.
