しかし、ただひとりゴジラを忘れていなかった人がいた。生物学者の林田信博士である。彼の活躍はまさに故芹沢博士の活躍に匹敵する。しかも、オキシジェン・デストロイヤーという決定的手段もなく、超音波でゴジラの帰巣本能を刺激するという、一見消極的な方法で見事撃退したのだ。彼こそ無闇にゴジラを殺すことを嫌った山根博士の志を継いだ、心ある学者といえる。

これをきっかけに、政府はようやくゴジラ対策に腰をあげた。「国土庁特殊災害研究会議・Gルーム」の設立である。「敵を知り、己を知れば･･････」の故事にならい、ゴジラの細胞から「抗核エネルギーバクテリア」を作り(ビオランテというとんでもないオマケがついたが･･････)、「スーパーXⅡ」や「メーサータンク」というゴジラ専用の超兵器を開発し、ANEBとの連携で見事な効果を挙げたサンダービーム作戦を編み出した。さらに三枝未希という超能力者にも恵まれ、ようやくゴジラに対して「戦略的」な行動をとれるシステムを確立したのである。

三枝未希が以後、ゴジラとの戦いに欠かせない存在となったことを思えば、Gルームはよい仕事をした、と評価できるのではないだろうか。

その後、Gルームは国土庁から防衛庁へと移管し、危機連絡会議へと、より本格的に再編制された。三枝未希をメインとした超科学研究センターとの連携も緊密化され、ゴジラ対策も万全となりかけた矢先に、未来人の襲撃という思いがけない出来事が起こった。

300年も未来の科学力に現代人がかなうわけもない。この新しい組織がGルームほど活躍できなかったからといって責められないだろう。

Modern humans stand no chance against the scientific capabilities of a civilization 300 years in the future. This new organization shouldn’t be blamed if it doesn’t perform as well as the G-Room.
