11月3日はゴジラの誕生日。第1作『ゴジラ』が封切られたのが、1954年のこの日だったからだ。

November 3rd is Godzilla’s birthday. This is because it was on this day in 1954 that the first work “Godzilla” was released.

そのゴジラが4歳になった2001年の同じ日、東京・渋谷の文化村オーチャードホールでは、『ゴジラモスラキングギドラ大怪獣総攻撃』が、第14回東京国際映画祭の特別招待作品とし先行上映された。この作品が一般公開されるのは、この日が初めて。場内は約2千人の観客で超満員となり、ファンの熱気に包まれた。

On the same day in 2001, when Godzilla turned 4 years old, “Godzilla Mothra King Ghidorah Giant Monsters All-Out Attack” was screened as a special screening at the 14th Tokyo International Film Festival at Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Shibuya, Tokyo. This is the first time the work has been shown to the public. The venue was overcrowded with about 2,000 spectators, and was filled with the enthusiasm of the fans.

上映前には、富山省吾プロデューサ―、新山千春さん、宇崎竜童さん、角田信朗さん、金子修介監督が舞台挨拶。また、読売巨人軍・松井秀喜選手の応援メッセージもスクリーンに映し出された。来年はゴジラと映画で共演したい、という松井選手の夢は、はたして実現するのか?今後の東宝の動向に注目したいところだ。

Before the screening, producer Shogo Toyama, Chiharu Niiyama, Ryudo Uzaki, Nobuaki Tsunoda, and director Shusuke Kaneko gave stage greetings. A message of support from Yomiuri Giants player Hideki Matsui was also projected on the screen. Will Matsui’s dream of co-starring in a movie with Godzilla next year come true?

2000 Godzilla fans filled the venue. There was a line in front of the venue from early in the morning.

↑こちらは、6月27日、東京世田谷の東宝撮影所第8ステージでおこなわれた製作発表時のスナップ。2メートルを超すゴジラのニュースーツが、この日、初お目見えした。

This is a snapshot of the production announcement held on the 8th stage of Toho Studios in Setagaya, Tokyo on June 27th. Godzilla’s new suit, which exceeds 2 meters, was unveiled for the first time on this day.
