Here are 15 secrets you should know about Godzilla.

❶どうして、「ゴジラ」っていう名まえなの？
Why is he called “Godzilla”?

地球上でいちばん大きい動物の「くじら」と、怪力ナンバーワンの「ゴジラ」をあわせて、「ゴジラ」というんだ。怪獣王にふさわしい、かっこいい名まえだね。

The name “Godzilla” is a combination of “whale,” the largest animal on earth, and “Godzilla”, who has the greatest strength. It’s a cool name suitable for the King of Monsters.

❷ゴジラの超パワーは、どこからうまれるの？
Where does Godzilla’s super power come from?

からだの中に原子ろがあって、そこでエネルギーをつくりだすんだ。

There are atoms in his body produce energy.

❸ふだんは、どこにすんでるの？
Where does he usually live?

ふだんは、南大洋の怪獣島にいるけど、海のそこのどうくつで、どうみんしていることもあるよ。

He usually lives on Monster Island in the Southern Ocean, but sometimes he lives in a cave there in the ocean.

❹なにをたべて生きてるの？
What is he living on?

ゴジラは海の生物で、肉食だから、くじらやさめなどをたべている。陸の上では、うしでも、うまでもたべちゃうぞ。

Godzilla is a sea creature and carnivorous, so he eats whales and sharks. On land, he eat cows and even horses.

❺ゴジラの弱点は？
What is Godzilla’s weakness?

「オキシジェンデストロイヤー」という、水中のをさんそをはかいするくすりにはかなわかいけど、このくすりは、もうこの世にないから、いまは弱点がないよ。でも、さむさには、ちょっとよわいかな。

He’s fragile for a drug called “Oxygen Destroyer” that removes oxygen from the water, but since this drug is no longer in this world, he has no weak point now. But he’s a little bit softer in the cold.

❻ゴジラはほんとうに人間の味方なの？
Is Godzilla really an ally of humans?

ゴジラは、人間のために宇宙怪獣とたたかうのでなく、自分のすみかの地球をあらされるのをふせぐためにたたかっているのだ。人間に味方してるわけじゃないんだ。

Godzilla does not fight space monsters for humans, but fights to keep his home earth from being destroyed. He doesn’t take sides with humans.

人間にすみかをあらされると、ゴジラは人間をこうげきするぞ。

Godzilla attacks humans when his home is attacked by humans.

❼ゴジラは、空をとべるの？
Can Godzilla fly in the sky?

からだをまるめて、ほうしゃ火えんをふけだして空をとねる。でも、あんまり長いきょりはとべないよ。

He rolls up his body, blow out the fire, and look up at the sky. But he doesn’t fly too long.

後ろむきにしか
とべないのが弱点なのだ

His weakness is that he can only fly backwards
