Only several months ago I became aware of this novelization of the original Gojira (1954). I’ve seen this cover art years ago but I didn’t know what it was. I was surprised to know such a book existed. So when an opportunity to purchase a limited edition reprint several weeks ago in Japan I couldn’t resist. I now own no.# 640 out of 1000 reprints packaged in an impressive box set released in 1999. 怪獣映画「ゴジラ」第1作の完全資料集です。1954年に公開された東宝映画「ゴジラ」の豪華資料集と、原作者である香山滋作『怪獣ゴジラ』(1954年出版)の完全復刻本が、超大判美麗セットケースに入っています。1954部限定、シリアルナンバー入りで1999年に出版された、ゴジラファンにはたまらないレアな資料集です。

This novelization was written by Shigeru Kayama (香山 滋) based on the original draft of the screenplay and Gojira radio drama. It was produced to coincide with the release of ゴジラ in 1954. 『怪獣ゴジラ』(香山滋・作)完全復刻本 一般に「ゴジラ」原作本と称されている1954年に刊行された『怪獣ゴジラ』(岩谷書店版)の完全復刻版。香山滋が映画化のために書き下ろした「G作品検討用台本」をもとに、シナリオライターの村田武雄、監督の本多猪四郎が「G作品準備稿」を書き、さらにそれを土台に、当時としては珍しいプロモーションのためのラジオ番組の台本が作られました。これに最終的に香山滋が手を入れて刊行されたのが本書です。
