Vinyl has been on my mind lately, probably because of re-releases of original vinyl LPs of Gojira (1954) and King Kong vs Godzilla (1962). I was fortunate growing up to have several Japanese Godzilla records that were not only entertaining but provided me soundtracks for my imagination during the lean years when Godzilla movies were no longer on television. With a recently purchased record player I’ve been enjoyed listening to condensed version of Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974), Mothra vs Godzilla (1964), and Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964) recorded on Super Monster Godzilla Movie Series volume no. 1 (スーパー怪獣ゴジラ映画シリーズ 1). I remember buying this album in Japan for 1,000 yen. I wanted it for its full body image of Godzilla 1974 on its back cover. Today, I listened to this album for the first time.

スーパー怪獣ゴジラ映画シリーズ 1 is a 33-1/3 LP record（CS-7190）released by Nippon Columbia Co. Ltd in 1980. 1980年に日本コロムビアからリリースされたドラマ盤です。This album is number one of five in the series. It’s retail price was 1800 yen (about $18 US). On side 1 is Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla ｢ゴジラ対メカゴジラ｣ and on side 2, Mothra vs Godzilla ｢モスラ対ゴジラ｣, and Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster ｢三大怪獣地球最大の決戦｣. The album lifts the soundtracks directly from the movies. Those who love these Showa-era movies like I do will have no difficulty using their imagination to recreate every scene. Inside are four pages with lyrics and movie information with great pictures, particularly of great full-body shots of the Godzilla 1974 suit that are difficult to find. Using my new player I’ve captured the album tracks in mp3 format for your listening enjoyment.
